Salvatore Victor Figure Drawing Class @ Patris Studio

Tonight we did some awesome exercises with gesture drawing in Sal's Figure Drawing class.
Gesture, block in, contour and a great conversation with everyone about the process of learning to see as a way of learning to draw.

Wednesday morning Urban Landscape Painting Group

Every Wednesday morning we have been painting the urban landscape of historic Oak Park.
I decided to try a plein painting in acrylics--that's a little challenging. I'm painting a pink church--pink is my color as you can see by my attire.
Here my friend Andy has found a charming view of the eclectic color and architecture so much a part of Oak Park.  Come out and join us for a morning of painting in Oak Park--we'll be near McGeorge Law School next week.

Pop Up Friday -- Make Art!

My 24"x36" acrylic on paper--we ended up doing about 2 1/2 hours for this pose during the morning POP UP session.  We also had a fabulous model for the afternoon session--a rising star on the local music scene.

My friend working with clay during POP UP Friday with a fantastic model.

Outdoor Still life session this Saturday

Bring your outdoor painting gear or use our studio equipment as we set up outside in the natural light to capture all the nuances and intricacies of the color red in our Still Life Session:
Red on  Red.
Our main theme will utilize the color red in all it's hues, values, and attributes.

We painted outside the studio during our  Plein Air Workshop last weekend, and it was so much fun, we've got to do it again.  Added bonus: bathrooms, indoor rest area, a little wine and cheese to fuel the creative forces if desired.

2nd Saturday Artists in Action

Every 2nd Saturday from 3 pm - 6 pm we have a model and everyone is invited to come paint, draw, sculpt, write poetry, make art.  This session is free (but we always welcome donations to our Make Art Project).  We had a wonderful model, and artists from 4 years old to ??  came and joined in the creative fun.

In the evening, we had a community music jam session led by John Gruber who brought lots of  percussion instruments for people to play and .join in -- and together we made some great music.  We've got talent at Patris Studio and Art Gallery!

Another great artist workshop!

Phillipe explains about setting up, simplifying, and
choosing a subject when painting plein air
For his block in, he used a red tone to contrast
with the very grey morning atmosphere.
By editing, simplifying, and composing his painting carefully, our master artist teacher showed how
any scene can become a beautiful painting.

A great outdoor painting workshop with Philippe

Our day began with a demo and preparation for outdoor painting with master artist Phillppe Gandiol.  Originally from France, he now resides in Davis and travels internationally to paint and teach workshops.  We are so fortunate he is our friend, our mentor and artist colleague!
In the afternoon, we set up a still life to paint outside the studio to practice simplifying and capturing the essence of the scene.  A very great day with some artist friends and some new artist fiends from Davis and San Francisco. Thanks Phillipe for a great day to learn and practice. Make Art!!!!

A great article on Patris Studio and Gallery in Oak Park

http://sacramentopress.com/headline/79940/Locally_Owned_Patris_Studio_and_Art_Gallery

Many people have never really heard the full story of my artist journey and my passion for creating art, my dedication to on-going learning, and my committment to Oak Park revitalization efforts.  This is a wonderful story about how the gallery and studio came into the heart of Oak Park.
"With passion and purpose, you can overcome a lot of doubt and obstacles if you remain committed to your dream."
And another door opens.  "The future belongs to those who
believe in the beauty of their dreams."
One door closes and....
