David Shevlino workshop in full swing this week at Patris Studio

During both workshops, David did a demo to help students see his process for all prima pairnting.  He uses big brushes to create energetic brushstrokes and linseed oil to keep the paint thin.

A somewhat limited palette helps him achieve harmonious color while maintaining a strong value pattern in the painting.

His block in stages keep the painting loose and open for further development.

We were fortunate to watch him paint this exquisite still life demo on the last day of the first workshop.

David Shevlino Workshop at Patris Studio

We are honored and fortunate to have internationally known artist David Shevlino teaching at the studio for 2 workshops.

We were  inspired. intrigued, and interested as we learned more about David's approach to painting the figure alla prima, which is a wet into wet oil painting technique.
David's loose and confident brushstrokes, combined with his knowledge of color, edges, drawing, etc. had all of us mesmerized as we watched him create this beautiful painting during his demo on the first day.

And of course, there's nothing like wrapping up a full day of painting at the Oak Park Brewery right around the corner from the studio.  Make Art!!!
