Craig Nelson
Speed Studies Workshop in Oil or Acrylic
Author of “60 Minutes to Better Painting”

April 12 – 14, 2019

Get better painting results in this speed studies workshop, using the quick study approach to stop overthinking and use proven techniques that build your painting skills.

Craig Nelson, author of “60 Minutes to Better Painting” and highly acclaimed art instructor and director at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, will cover brushwork, color, value, composition and lighting effects, using his “quick studies” approach and techniques.

We will paint 2 days of figure - 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon with a different focus for each session.

The 3rd day we’ll create a larger painting in the morning and another painting in the afternoon from your own references (architecture, animal, figure, landscape, etc) or select from Craig’s photos.

Learn how to see, understand process, deal with editing, capture the essence of a subject, and learn how to get the most out of your brush and the character of mark making.

Students will paint a total of 12 studies.
Take your painting skills to the next level in this exciting workshop with internationally known artist and teacher Craig Nelson.

Announcing: John Poon Landscape Painting Workshop

Fundamentals of Landscape Painting with John Poon'

April 1 – 5, 2019
10 am – 5 pm

This workshop will focus on the fundamentals of Value, Color, and Design, which are so necessary in the creation of successful paintings.
We will paint from reference material as if we were in the field, learning the use of warm and cool tones for unity, and adjusting values to show more air and life into our shadows.

This approach will enable participants to use photos with a much broader range of possibilities and outcomes.

All skill levels welcome

Students will learn a reliable,     step-by-step system for completing paintings start to finish which can be applied to both on-location and studio works.  Instruction will include lecture and slide presentation, instructor demonstration, class and individual critique, and one on one time with each student.
