A beautiful day out in Oak Park for David Peterson’s Watercolor Workshop this morning titled “Loose and Lively on the Urban Corner.” In this workshop, David showed the group how he takes an ordinary street scene and turns it into a lively and fun painting experience.
Below are some of the paintings from the workshop participants. Everyone enjoyed the day here in the heart of Oak Park painting the urban corners around the studio. David Peterson is an amazing artist and a wonderful instructor. Thank you David for this wonderful watercolor workshop at the studio!

"PILE IT ON!" - and finish with finesse...
Full Day Workshops at Patris Studio...
Freedom! That's what this workshop is about. Be bold!
If you've ever wanted to learn how to use more paint this class is for you. We will wash in the underpainting quickly and then grab our palette knife. We will pile on the paint before learning to soften the edges with the brush and finish with any necessary detail. This technique is designed to teach you how to trust what you see with your eyes while squinting to see the large value shapes, in addition to learning to manipulate more paint on the canvas.DATES:

Abigail Van Cannon Speed Studies Painting Class Begins August 14
90 minute study by Abigail Van Cannon |
6 Week Painting Class - $180 - Reserve your spot today.
Dates: Thursday’s August 14,21,28 Sept. 11,18, 25
Time: 10-2pm @ Patris Studios and Gallery
Instructor: Abigail VanCannon
Speed Studies is a fast paced, energetic, approach to painting.
Having applied this approach in teaching, VanCannon found that
it not only helps build confidence and speed, but takes students to a new level. Practice makes perfect and brush mileage will quickly improve ones skill. When forced to do speed studies one learns to make quick decisions that eventually become instinctual. Not only will students learn from new topics each week, but also from group discussion and side-by-side instruction. Demos will also be given throughout the course.

Capitol Plein Air: Bogle Winery
A beautiful place to learn and practice plein air painting in the Delta. |
We enjoyed each other's company, laughed alot and worked hard. Nothing like a good picnic lunch to revive the painting spirit and keep us going for the rest of the day. |
Lunch time demo by Elio. |
After a full day of painting, we headed over to the Dinky Diner in Clarksburg where Elio began a sunset demo. Fact or Fiction: Humphrey the Whale really was seen in the Delta waters--AGAIN. |
Elio's demo really was a beautiful, vivid statement of color, brushwork, and creative artistic expression. |

Capitol Plein Air Workshop Day 2: Tower Bridge
Our workshop began with a demo and lecture about some aspect of painting and composing. Today we set up near the Tower Bridge. |
Lots of learning and lots of min-lessons gave us lots to think about. |
Fact or Fiction: Humphrey the Whale was observed swimming in the Sacramento River. |
