Three weeks January 9, 16, 23 –
Go Big or Go Home
This class is designed for students who have a strong grasp of painting basics and want to start or keep developing their own style and series of work. Each student will bring a 24x30 sized canvas or larger to work on throughout the 3 weeks. Each student also needs to bring a good photo reference of what they would like to paint.
You can set up a still life in class, but remember we will be working on the same painting for 3 weeks. This photo can be anything your wanting to create into a large painting - Figurative, still life, landscape etc. This process will help students problem solve in large format, focus on finishing stages, and develop their own voice. I will be able to spend individual time with each student - helping with the process.
Feel free to email me a photo ahead of time if you'd like any suggestions for color palette and or format of canvas.
Two Weeks - Jan. 30 and Feb 6
Back to the Basics
Students will be working on a still life painting alla prima style, working to finish it in one class period. (8x10-11x14 size) This class is geared to help students with their technique, brush handling, observation skills, and color usage. Its great for beginners or intermediate students who want to keep up their skills.
(I will have beginner still life and intermediate still life set up)
I will be painting along side you for those who like demos and walking around to help each of you on an individual basis.
If your a beginner who wants to take this class, please email me and I will let you know what supplies you need to bring.

“Brushwork and Color Wash Method” with Randy Blasquez
Brushwork is important to one's own expression. It brings life to a painting. Although it is only one of the many parts to bringing a painting together, we will focus on the many ways to include dynamic brushwork to a finished artwork. We will start with exercises using the brush and other "tools" on day one, followed by a demonstration after lunch. On day two you will paint in a whole new way, starting with a wash of vibrant color and building to a textural finish that will change the way you paint!
- Some painting experience is suggested. Class Supply List will be provided.
- Call Randy if you'd like to talk more about this workshop....

Announcing Francisco Benitez Encaustic Workshop
It is with great pleasure and honor to welcome Francisco Benitez, internationally known master artist, back to Sacramento where he will hold a 3-day Encaustic Workshop at the Patris Studio and Art Gallery in Oak Park.
Francisco, who resides in both Europe and New Mexico, did his first encaustic painting in the fall of 2005, after years of being fascinated with the medium, but never daring to paint figuratively in it. In the 1990’s, when he lived in France, he discovered a book called the Mysterious Fayum Portraits, by Euphrosyne Doxiadis. He was mesmerized by these ancient portraits, and began experimenting with the ancient tools, called “cauteria”, and the four-color palette of the ancient Greeks.
Encaustic is a particularly challenging, yet beautiful medium, in which to paint and is one of the most permanent mediums known to us. Participants in this 3-day workshop will experience this ancient and mesmerizing medium as they work under the tutelage of master artist Francisco Benitez.
