KIDS ART CAMP

CHOOSE YOUR ART!

FINE ART - maximum 8 students
o This camp is designed for the student who
loves to draw, but needs direction or
encouragement. Learning to draw what is seen
(both real and imaginary) is a vital step for all other
art forms. Art is all about feeling the freedom to take
risks, to explore the unknown, to trust your own judgment. Because when you are
free to dream, you find the power to create.

FIBER ART - maximum 6 students
o Do you dream of making something with your own hands that you can wear?
Make a fashion statement by learning to make your own wearable art. So simple
to do. Camp projects include: felted, crochet and nuno flowers to wear, give, or
swap with friends and family.

CULINARY ART - maximum 4 students
o Curiosity created the cook! Calling kids for a week of mad-delicious food
experiments and creations! Kids will experience a world of hands-on culinary art
as they learn how to properly prepare, produce and present their international
edible delights.

Preparing for plein air painting

A great day for a plein air painting lesson with teacher Randy Blasquez.   There is a great view right outside the studio do and lots of shade in the front.
Here Randy shows her students some techniques and approaches to use when painting outdoors on location.  This is an awesome set up and one I will definitely try out in the field.  Have a great plein air painting trip to France Randy and students!!!

Art plays a part in supporting the local economy

How does the local economy benefit from an artist workshop or class at Patris Studio and Art Gallery? Every Tuesday, Randy Blasquez and her class enjoys lunch at Old Soul, one block from the studio.  It seems like all the artists coming to the studio are enjoying the coffee, the food, the adult beverages available at  Old Soul at 40 Acres, 35th and Broadway in the Triangle District of Oak Park..

Guess where we went for our cappuccino, coffee drinks, and lunch during this plein air workshop?  Right up the block to Old Soul. Art feeds the local economy and Old Soul feeds the artists!

Still life Study in Natural Light

Tuesday Oil Painting Class with Randy Blasquez. She had her students paint a still life set up outside the studio so they could study the natural light on their subject matter.  Great lesson!  We noticed how the cool blue hues of the sky become a lot more obvious in the light planes.

Wednesday morning Urban Landscape Painting Club

Plein Air Painting the urban landscape every Wednesday morning.  Our urban landscape painting club--which is open to all artists--is painting the historic urban core of Oak Park.  We find our painting subjects in everything and anything we see around us. And--we are learning that you don't have to search all day for the perfect spot--finding the perfect spot is just a matter of setting up the easel anywhere and creating a painting.   Great job Eva and Andy!

Salvatore Victor Figure Drawing Class @ Patris Studio

Tonight we did some awesome exercises with gesture drawing in Sal's Figure Drawing class.
Gesture, block in, contour and a great conversation with everyone about the process of learning to see as a way of learning to draw.

Wednesday morning Urban Landscape Painting Group

Every Wednesday morning we have been painting the urban landscape of historic Oak Park.
I decided to try a plein painting in acrylics--that's a little challenging. I'm painting a pink church--pink is my color as you can see by my attire.
Here my friend Andy has found a charming view of the eclectic color and architecture so much a part of Oak Park.  Come out and join us for a morning of painting in Oak Park--we'll be near McGeorge Law School next week.

Outdoor Still life session this Saturday

Bring your outdoor painting gear or use our studio equipment as we set up outside in the natural light to capture all the nuances and intricacies of the color red in our Still Life Session:
Red on  Red.
Our main theme will utilize the color red in all it's hues, values, and attributes.

We painted outside the studio during our  Plein Air Workshop last weekend, and it was so much fun, we've got to do it again.  Added bonus: bathrooms, indoor rest area, a little wine and cheese to fuel the creative forces if desired.

2nd Saturday Artists in Action

Every 2nd Saturday from 3 pm - 6 pm we have a model and everyone is invited to come paint, draw, sculpt, write poetry, make art.  This session is free (but we always welcome donations to our Make Art Project).  We had a wonderful model, and artists from 4 years old to ??  came and joined in the creative fun.

In the evening, we had a community music jam session led by John Gruber who brought lots of  percussion instruments for people to play and .join in -- and together we made some great music.  We've got talent at Patris Studio and Art Gallery!
