Peggi Kroll Roberts
Figure Painting Workshop

When:  October 21-23, 2016
Where: Patris Studio and Gallery
Cost: $475 and  includes all model fees
Registration: contact Patris for details

In Peggi's workshop, we will paint the figure in simple costumes, utilizing props, different poses and simple vignettes in the studio. There will be lots of demonstrations emphasizing the big shapes and color/value relationships.  This workshop is great for beginning to advanced students alike, in a comfortable and easy-going atmosphere.

"We will cover a lot of canvas-burning mileage by painting smaller sizes. I believe that more is learned through many small starts than laboring over a large canvas."

In Memory of Terre Johnson--long live his Legacy

To the man who was my neighbor, my friend, my landlord, my art patron, my community comrade and business leader, our Oak Park advocate and executive director - and so much more - Terre Johnson will always be remembered for the life he lived and the lives he touched. What a legacy to leave and what a life to celebrate. I will always remember you always Terre Johnson and be forever grateful to you.

My heart longed to set up my studio in Oak Park and this beautiful building belonging to Terre and Michael was the perfect place. In 2012, they gave me the keys and we began to prepare the place to become the Patris Studio and Art Gallery.

On a hot 2nd Saturday in July of 2012, we held the grand opening of  Patris Studio and Gallery in Oak Park with a huge celebration and open house.

At the gallery, there are many special events as well as all of the day to day art happenings.  One special event that Terre organized brought us Mayor Kevin Johnson, Jay Schenirer, and a very important VIP from Washington DC.

So it's with most grateful heart and thankfulness that I will always remember Terre Johnson for giving me an opportunity to make my dream come true--to create a thriving, vibrant art center here in Oak Park and have a studio where I can continue to grow, learn, and develop my art skills.
Thank you Terre Johnson and Michael Luna.

Announcing: Weekend Painting Clinic with Abigail VanCannon

c

You may have a stack of partially finished paintings in the closet or corner of the studio. For whatever reason they got  put aside and remain unfinished. Sometimes they get put away because of the constant challenges and problems that arise or maybe its just a timing issue. Whatever the reason, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to dust off the unfinished work and bring it to the workshop.

During this workshop we'll review the unfinished pieces and Abigail will help create a plan to finish them. We'll work out the problem areas and discuss ways to make the pieces work. She will also be giving helpful tips on how to start paintings so that you can avoid stressful hiccups along the way. Together you will also cover ways to create a body of work and why you would want to create one.

If you don't have any in process pieces that's ok! Bring in a couple photo references of something you've always wanted to paint. Under her professional guidance, you'll learn the beginning steps and a process that you can apply to all your future paintings.

She is also planning to go out for dinner after class on Saturday night. We'll pick a yummy place and unwind from the painting day. Before class ends on Sunday we'll do a group review of our work with snacks and beverages.

Instructor
Elio Camacho
As a painting instructor, my mission is to provide students with the foundation necessary to be
creative. My goal is to assist students in capturing the particular mood of the moment and to express themselves in a bold and colorful way, while capturing the beauty and spontaneity of nature.

Workshop Philosophy
Elio's workshops are very hands on, with an emphasis on easel side critiques. He believes that
givi ng instruction is important, but showing students how this instruction applies to their
individual work is crucial. Based on the
student’s level and goals, he develop a program
for improving each individual’s ability as a
painter.

Method of Instruction:
• Demos
• Hands On
• Instruction at the Students Easel
• Group Critiques

Elio Camacho is currently represented in galleries throughout
the United States.

“The works have a looseness and spontaneity that goes beyond just rendering every detail.”
